If you think a frisbee is both a toy and a plate, this is your pizza. 😉

I find it even funnier that the birthplace of this culinary monstrosity is called “Traditional” Pizza and Donair. Love the idea though, it’s hilarious.

On this note … is ‘Donair’ a corruption of (the Turkish) Döner that’s unique to this company / NS, or is it the term across Canada? I’ve only ever heard / seen the name on TPB / the boys using it.

P.S. The pizza looks like revolting. But for authenticity’s sake … surely the pepperoni should be cut into ‘cocks’, not slices …

It’s an Atlantic Canada Thing. You can get donairs and pizza’s with donair meat pretty well anywhere in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI or Newfoundland.

It’s a Canada-wide thing. Although donair styles vary across the country.

Donair was found almost exclusively in NS, though in the last 6-7 years it’s been spreading very slowly to the rest of Canada. I don’t know that the Nova Scotians actually claim to have created Donair, but they’re definitely huge fans.

Source: Was in Halifax for about 3 months several years back. Ate a lot of Donair.

I was eating donair in Calgary and Saskatchewan over 10 years ago, but it doesn’t compare to German Döner.

I was eating donairs in Burlington, ON 30 years ago. This isn’t exclusive to the east coast, but it seems like most east coasters seem to think it is

Kind of but not. There were different names and variations of Turkish or Greek Doners, Germany using Doner and every country using different names of the original Doner. Like when they say Gyros are like Donairs but they are really nothing like them. The ones in New York anyways. But this name Donair and the way it tastes is truly special unto to its own. The rest is just spicy meat.

The Donair here is a cross of turk and Greek. The NS Donair is different and they use a sweet condensed milk sause that is an emulation like mayonasse. NS Donair is Beef not lamb and is a cross between the Turkish Done and Greek Gyro.

Usually spiced ground meat, rotisserie roasted, and then sliced off as it cooks.

For all of those wondering about donairs and their meat, yes it is descended from the Turkish dish and also the Greek gyro; basically it’s a gyro but with less vegetables (usually only diced tomatoes and onions) and a different sauce on it. It’s a much sweeter sauce than tzatziki, given that it’s made from evapourated milk, garlic powder, sugar, and white vinegar. The meat is also usually half and half beef and lamb compressed together onto a vertical spit and then shaved off into strips, or just beef if you’re taking the cheaper production route. It’s all delicious, and also greasier than Sam Losco; generally known as the prime Nova Scotian drunk food LOL. My personal favourite is what Pizzadelic is known for, the Greek Donair; made up of all of the traditional donair ingredients plus feta cheese, black olives, mozzarella cheese, and shredded lettuce. It hits all of the components of my ideal flavour quadrifecta: meaty, spicy (as although the spice level is somewhat plebeian by my standards it still definitely tastes good and would register as spicy on a non-infernal tongue LOL), sweet, and cheesy.

Well boys, looks like I have to bring myself to Nova Scotia after all. Probably wayyyyyy better than this Florida shit hole. All I get here is New York pizza and it’s greasier than Randy’s gut after a cheeseburger buffet! Seriously boys, Florida is the WORST place on earth, we got trailers down here too, but they are full of dying old people and they never have dope in them at all. Everyone wants to come here to die. I want to go to Sunnyvale to LIVE!
